Everyone has issues with installing or upgrading software, and even though this process has had a lot of thought, sometimes little bits of info slip through the cracks. If you’ve had a problem upgrading Google Chrome from its stable release to the Beta or Developer version, check below to see if we can help. If we can’t leave a not in the comments area and we’ll try to give you some advice as soon as possible!

Problem
When I run chromechannel-1.0.exe I receive the following warning:

KEY NOT FOUND – Chrome is not installed, or is not using GoogleUpdate for updates.

Solution
You may be using the stable or ‘no update’ version of the software. You first need to switch to the Chrome Beta versions (which includes the updater software), and then you will be able to run the Channel Chooser again.

Go to -> Chrome Beta download to switch to the Beta channel, then run the update program again, which you can find on our Update Google Chrome for Extensions page.

Problem
When I try to install an extension it says:

Extension Install Error – Extensions are not enabled.

Solution
You may still be using the Beta version or Stable version of Chrome. Please upgrade to the Developer version by following the instructions here –> Update Chrome

Problem
I’ve tried everything above and I’m still having problems with Extensions not being enabled!

Solution
- Uninstall Google Chrome (be careful not to delete your browsing data)
- Go to the Google Chromium Dev channel page – http://dev.chromium.org/getting-involved/dev-channel – and scroll down until you see a download link for your operating system
- Download the Developer version directly
- That’s it! You should now be able to install and run Chrome Extensions without any problem!
