Some people are confused right now about how to install Google Chrome extensions in their browser. The problem that most people are facing is that you need to update your Chrome browser to the latest developer build before you can use the cool extensions and addons for Chrome.
There are a couple of things you should think about before upgrading to the developer version of Chrome:
Advantages
- You can download, install and use the brand new Chrome extensions!
- You will see functions and features within the browser before anyone else!
Disadvantages
- You may notice that the software crashes with irritating frequency, for no apparent reason
- Features may be rolled-back or removed at any time with no warning!
Ok, so now you are sure in your decision, so let’s go with the install! First, you need to download a little file from Google (hosted at the Chromium project site):
http://chromium.googlecode.com/files/chromechannel-1.0.exe
It’s called the Google Chrome Channel Chooser and it means that when you update your software, you can select whether you want to use the Beta version (which is the standard) or the Developer version (which is what you want now).
Ok, so go ahead and click on the wrench icon in the top right of the Chrome browser – and click on ‘About Google Chrome’. It will then check for updates, and prompt you to choose your version.
Select ‘Developer version’ and you have updated your Google Chrome browser! Now it’s time to find some Chrome extensions to install!
